FAQs

What is Occupational Therapy and how can it help?

Occupational Therapy supports people to overcome challenges to do the things they want or need to do. Find out more about Mental Health Occupational Therapy.

How is Occupational Therapy different from psychology?

Both focus on helping you to feel better but use slightly different approaches. Often psychology will take more of a focus on the internal psychological process, and this can take some time. Occupational Therapists offer counselling support but also take a very practical focus. Through Occupational Therapy, you will set clear goals and develop skills and strategies so you can live your life to the full.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No you don’t. If you are interested in working with Way Ahead Therapy, get in touch and we can discuss your needs.

How many sessions will I need?

Typically people work with Way Ahead Therapy for 6-8 sessions. However, there is no set number. For some, a single consultation is enough and for others longer term support is needed. We will discuss your needs and wishes from the outset.

How often are sessions?

Again, this will be based on your needs and preferences. It can be helpful to meet weekly initially, however some people prefer fortnightly or even monthly. It is also possible to have ‘top up’ sessions as and when required.

What costs are involved?

Sessions are €85 on zoom or in person. Sessions typically last 45-60 minutes, although the first session may be longer. Home/ community visits by arrangement.

Is it covered by health insurance?

Occupational Therapy services are covered fully or partly by most health insurers. You should check your policy or contact your provider to check what’s covered.

What ages do you work with?

We work with adults of any age and young people from the age of 12. Parental consent will be required for anyone under the age of 18.

Where are you based?

Our office is at 2-4 Merville Road, Stillorgan. By arrangement we can meet you in your home, school, office or a location of your choosing.

We also offer video or phone based support to anyone in the Republic of Ireland.
