What is Occupational Therapy and how can it help?

Occupational Therapy supports people to overcome challenges to do the things they want or need to do. Find out more about Mental Health Occupational Therapy.

How is Occupational Therapy different from psychology?

While both aim to help you feel better, they use slightly different approaches. Psychologists and psychotherapists or counsellors often focus primarily on internal psychological processes, which can involve exploring your thoughts, emotions, and patterns over time.

Occupational Therapists also provide counselling support, but we take a more practical, hands-on approach. Our therapist work with you to set clear, achievable goals and help you develop strategies and skills that support everyday functioning.

With Occupational Therapy, you take active steps toward managing challenges and building a more fulfilling, balanced life. The goal is to empower you to live your life to the fullest, with greater confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

How often are Occupational Therapy sessions?

Again, the approach depends on your individual needs and preferences. To start, meeting weekly can be helpful for building momentum. However, some people prefer sessions every two weeks or even monthly. Additionally, you can schedule ‘top-up’ sessions as needed, depending on how things are going.

How much does an Occupational Therapy session cost?

Sessions range from €110 to €150. Sessions typically last 45-60 minutes, although the first session may be longer. Home/ community visits by arrangement.
